WASHINGTON: One of Washington’s most beloved holiday traditions, a Celtic Christmas, with the Barnes & Hampton Celtic Consort returns for its 24th season in the candlelit beauty of Georgetown’s Historic Dumbarton Church. This timeless music, a lovely weave of the sounds of the Celtic harp, lute, Irish pipes, bodhran, flutes and recorders, is perfect for the moods of the season: Christmas, the winter solstice or anytime the snow sparkles on a clear, cold night – all suggesting “a wintry evening spent nestled in a living-room chair with a hot beverage in hand.” (The Washington Post) Linn Barnes – on lute, guitar and Irish bagpipes – and Allison Hampton on Celtic harp, are joined by Joseph Cunliffe, flutes, recorders, and Steven Bloom, percussion. Interwoven throughout the program will be seasonal readings by Sirius XM radio host, Robert Aubry Davis, including Dylan Thomas’s classic, A Child’s Christmas in Wales and King Arthur’s Wassail. |
