WASHINGTON:  On Saturday, February 6 at 8pm, two of Latin America’s finest guitarists, Berta Rojas and Quique Sinesi, take the Dumbarton Concerts stage for an evening of music drawn from the rich traditions of their homelands.

Folklore music is the sustenance of Latin America, vast as its borders, its climates and its diverse peoples. The identity of Latin America changes without forgetting its roots, thanks in particular to musicians like Berta Rojas and Quique Sinesi, who draw upon the essence of the identities of their countries, Paraguay and Argentina, to honor and remember their cultural roots in the strings of the guitar.

Berta has the rare ability to communicate the beauty of her soul through her hands as she plays guitar. Her performances express her extraordinary personality; her musical identity stretches from popular pieces to the great works of the classical guitar.

Quique is an explorer of the heart, always in search of sounds and colors that illuminate the sorrow of Rio de la Plata and somehow convert that sorrow into hope. This multi-instrumentalist will treat us to the sounds of his 7-string guitar, piccolo guitar, acoustic guitar and the small guitar called the “charango.” Quique is very creative with his interpretation of folklore music, especially his use of alternative guitar tuning.
